Kentucky

I just had a lovely thanksgiving in Kentucky. I hadn't been up there in four years. It's so beautiful there. I haven't uploaded my digital shots yet but here's one of my polaroids I shot at Ried's Orchard.

Before I left, I also shot a few polaroids of the leaves before they finished changing. Here's my favorite:

and here's my latest etsy purchase. A recycled book turned notebook I got for my mom from YourSecretAdmiral

buy handmade

I just signed the "buy handmade" pledge. It's basically a pledge to try to buy all handmade items this holiday season (via etsy, independant sellers, etc.) and to influence as many others as possible to do the same.
I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

I've been really into cooking lately and just made this delicious recipie I saw on the food network's "Everyday Italian". I get so many amazing recipies from their website. This is spicy parmesan green beans and kale. It was so yummy and easy to make!

Since I'm on the vegetable kick I might as well share one of my favorite items on etsy. It's a beautiful photograph from six hours photography called "sprouts"

galactic boutique

I am so happy to announce that my work will now be available at Galactic Boutique in Seattle, WA. I've never had my work in a store before, so I am very excited about this.

I've been helping my husband promote his etsy shop lately so I think this is a good place to give him some exposure. He is selling prints of his amazingly beautiful oil paintings. Soon I hope he will be able to add some small originals and silverpoint drawings. This is his latest piece:

notecards

I just finished making some new notecards this weekend. I use a unique process where I print my cards onto paper, then I take the paper and was infuse it. This is where you paint melted beeswax on the back and use a heat gun to pull to was through the fibers of the paper. It gives it an almost skin-like texture and the colors stand out more. I then stitch the pieces onto a regular blank notecard. Here's an example of one I listed today in my etsy shop:

I had a lovely Halloween and my cotstume turned out well. I was a 1950's librarian that night. My hair was interesting the next day to say the least:

storybook ending

I tried on my work Halloween costume yesterday, little red riding hood, and thought that I would do some storybook-themed photos. I ended up with four good shots. The light outside really made the red glow. This one is my favorite I think:

We got some white pumpkins and will probably be carving them tonight while watching the Garfield Halloween Special. If they turn out well, I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I just fell in love with this beautiful piece by Jenny Keith Hughes. Such a beautiful example of encaustic.

new work

I've made so many new pieces since I've last been on here that I've neglected my blog. I've been living in photoshop and etsy for that past month. I've done quite a few self-portraits and portraits of my husband. I miss working with human life. Here's two of my favorites from those:

both are available in my etsy shop.

I also went to a beach wedding in Gulf Shores, AL a few weeks ago of one of my best friends since 7th grade. I got some amazing beach shots there as well. This is my favorite from that trip:

I've found so many amazing new things on etsy. I'll gradually try to post them all. For now I'll leave you with my most rescent purchase:

I have been scanning up a storm lately. I love having all of my old photos on my computer now. I was scanning some old family photographs for my mom, when I found the cutest picture of my dad. It was taken in Aug. of 1973 exactly 35 years ago when my parents were in Europe. It's of my dad facing the Eiffel Tower. He's so adorable.

Fall is coming and I'm starting to drink tea again. I just found these beautiful tea tins from Pearl River and they are so cheap. I think I'm going to get a few. I have my eye on this pink one:

I was just pulling up one of my latest pieces to post when I found this sweet little charm by fearlessfreak on the front page of etsy. I love finding new sellers!

I will leave you with my latest piece inspired by my parents Europe photos and my sister-in-law studying abroad. It's called Lights of Paris:

new scanner!

My printer has been broken for almost a year now and today I finally got a new one. It's a copier-scanner-printer. Now I can scan all of my old photos and polaroids. Here's a dyptic I shot on expired polaroid film:

In other news, etsy had a poster contest featuring all of the amazing things you can find there and one of my pieces made it in!!! Here is one of the winning posters:

They are going to print the sixty winning posters and hand them out at craft fairs. Here's a link to all of the amazing winners: http://www.etsy.com/poster_winners.php

I guess it's an art week.

I am just really into art right now. I went through a period the last couple of years where I was all into furniture. We had just bought our house and I was trying to get it to a point where I felt each room was ours.

We just put new dark brown bamboo floors in our entire upstairs and painted the hallway a pale lavender. Before, I had the hallways completely covered with art work and now I'm slowly putting work back up. This time I'm being more selective in what I'm choosing to put up. I think I'll put up some empty frames to fill the space in the meantime.

I'd love to hang up this beautiful mixed media piece by Shanna Teague. I love the calming colors and the way the pages break up the space of the bridge so gracefully.

All day I've been admiring this beautifully unique necklace by Molly Proctor. I just love her simplistic words on those little antique spoons and the amber color of her photographs of them. Why can't I be rich?

Last night, my dog got stuck in my neighbor's yard. I don't know how she got over there (we're completely fenced in as are they). The only thing I can possibly think of is that she saw a squirrel that gave her enough motivation to jump the fence. May be I should consider these treats from The Chocolate Lab as an alternative.....

What a day. I've been doing a lot of promoting today, getting things ready for the busy shopping season. I think I'll promote someone else's work right now instead.

Ever since I joined etsy I have been a huge admirer of Jen McCleary's work. Her shop is fill with many amazing pieces just waiting to be taken home by someone (ideally me). This is one of my favorite pieces from her:

I just love the colors and how you can see the brush strokes and the texture of the lace. It's beautiful. You can buy her work at jenmccleary.etsy.com

My sister-in-law is studying abroad in Paris right now. I'm so jealous, but so happy for her at the same time. The closest thing I can get to France is this lavender french soap from savon de marseille.

First Post

This is my first blog ever so it may take some gettin used to. I want this blog to be about all the things I love, such as art interior design, animals, and living a healthy lifestyle. I think I'll just touch on three of those for my first entry.

Right now I am completely obsessed with etsy.com. I have had a photography shop on there for a few months and am really excited by all of the amazing things people are creating. I've sold a few pieces and hope to start selling on a regualr basis in the near future. Here's one of my favorite pieces right now:

I've also just discovered this amazing new (to me) drink. I try to drink mainly water but this sparking apple juice by IZZE is so delicious! There's no added sugar it's completely natural. I'm kind of glad it only comes in small bottles or I would buy it way too often.

Another thing I'm craving right now is a new teapot. I've really gotten into tea the past year and drink it regulary in the colder months. I love this little green one from anthropologie. Maybe I can hint at it as an anniversary present.....

Apparently, I have a thing for green right now.
